An Update on Rob and Pam

June 2006

Those of you who read my post The Coming of Sorrow (9/11) may be wondering how Rob is doing.  He was well enough to be discharged from hospital last Friday and is now home with mom and dad.    Pam and Rob’s home is only 5 minutes away.

Rob’s dad works from home so there is always someone in the house.

The stitches are out of his amputated leg and he has no fever.  He completed two rounds of chemo while in hospital.  Rob’s parent’s home is large enough to accommodate a hospital bed in the living room and a second bed for when Pam stays over.  She continues to work as she will be the sole income for some time.  Rob also has a wheelchair.  He was brought home from Orlando by ambulance.

I spent the day with them yesterday.  Rob was sitting in a chair and will have visiting nurses and physical therapists. He has a trapeze arrangement over his bed so he can exercise daily.  His next two rounds of chemo will be administered locally.

He is in good spirits considering his situation, surrounded and cared for by those he loves.  Our families are arranging to pay off their home, dispose of one car and ensure that money is not a worry.

My mantra to him is “You can do this.”

Many thanks for your good wishes.

About toritto

I was born during year four of the reign of Emperor Tiberius Claudius on the outskirts of the empire in Brooklyn. I married my high school sweetheart, the girl I took to the prom and we were together for forty years until her passing in 2004. We had four kids together and buried two together. I had a successful career in Corporate America (never got rich but made a living) and traveled the world. I am currently retired in the Tampa Bay metro area and live alone. One of my daughters is close by and one within a morning’s drive. They call their pops everyday. I try to write poetry (not very well), and about family. Occasionally I will try a historical piece relating to politics. :-)

Thank you for the update, Frank. Thank goodness his parents have a big house and Pam is close by. Many plusses in this terrible situation.
