Bamboo and Orchids

Well Toritto is back at home on the Florida Gulf coast after having spend a week with my daughter, son in law and grandson Clark in their new home over Thanksgiving.

Everyone alive in this country today knows the problems and worry associated with children playing outside and thus spending too much time in front of a television being entertained by the likes of Mickey, Big Bird and Marvel.  Certainly there is a place for that in childhood  but there is also a need for a child to be outside.

And Clark’s outside is now a magic garden behind his house where he is free to explore and learn.  This week he has learned to love “outside.”

Behind his home is an oriental garden filled with bamboo, palms, Florida plants, birds, several images of Buddha and an abundance of orchids – all totally fenced and walled in.  I’m sure there are small animals out there as well.  It is also the perfect place for Grandpa to sip a Dewar’s neat on a balmy Florida evening.

There are dozens of orchids scattered about the garden and my daughter and her husband will now have a new hobby  – gardening and learning to care for orchids.

About toritto

I was born during year four of the reign of Emperor Tiberius Claudius on the outskirts of the empire in Brooklyn. I married my high school sweetheart, the girl I took to the prom and we were together for forty years until her passing in 2004. We had four kids together and buried two together. I had a successful career in Corporate America (never got rich but made a living) and traveled the world. I am currently retired in the Tampa Bay metro area and live alone. One of my daughters is close by and one within a morning’s drive. They call their pops everyday. I try to write poetry (not very well), and about family. Occasionally I will try a historical piece relating to politics. :-)

Nice to see you back, Frank. Looks like you had some marvellous family time. And outside is always best for kids, weather permitting. Talking of which, shorts in November! Lucky you. It’s really cold here. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.
