The Threat of Radical Presbyterianism

So a couple of days ago I put up a post wishing everyone a happy Bastille Day along with a Youtube video of the finest rendition of Le Marseillaise I know.

By night fall the happy day had turned to sorrow as it was reported round the world that 86 had been killed including ten children with many more in hospital fighting for their lives.

I hate to say it because I consider myself a tolerant man.  I hate to say it but I knew who did it.  And so did you.

None of us thought it was a radical Presbyterian splinter group.  Or the terrorist Knights of the Virgin Mary or the Army of Opus Dei.   Nor was it the Orthodox Defenders of Byzantium, the Jewish Defenders of the Temple, the Hare Krishna, the Followers of the Dalai, Jehovah’s Witnesses or Scientologists.  Nor was it atheists.  And it wasn’t the Red Brigade.

When you heard the news of killings you knew who it was.  Another follower of the religion of peace.

Our killer of innocents this time was a Tunisian citizen who CHOSE to live in France. He left his country, lived in a nice middle class neighborhood, became a petty criminal, beat his wife and got divorced.

Then, reports say, he became quickly “radicalized” and decided to drive a rented truck over families having a nice evening watching fireworks.  I guess our killer felt victimized by the system.

Why didn’t he just go home?  It’s not that far from Nice to Tunisia.  He had family and would be among his own, submersed in his own culture where he wouldn’t have reason to feel like a victim of society.

No. He would murder people he did not even know, children, in the country that took him in.

Very brave.  In the land of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity, the country of the Enlightenment, he would kill families having a good time watching fireworks.

In a land where he could practice his religion freely or not as he chose, where he might freely say his prayers or take a drink or not on Bastille Day, he chose to murder.

Did his cultural background make him easy prey for the siren call of the Islamic State which provides none of those choices and routinely doles out a hideous death to “non-believers” or those accused of not being Muslim enough.  Even Muslims flee the butchery and oppression of the Islamic State and the Taliban.   Christian and Yazidi men are murdered and women enslaved, married off to become sex toys and servants to the fanatical young killers of the Islamic State.

What is the true nature of a culture which no where in the world lives in peace with it’s neighbors unless it rules and even in those countries the killings go on for some imagined affronts to the state religion?

Yesterday a prominent female Pakistani social network personality was strangled by her brother.  It was an “honor killing”.  He didn’t like her blog. There are 500 women killed in Pakistan by relatives each year because the family’s “honor” was besmirched.

Last week in Bangladesh a female journalist working diligently for the rights of women was hacked to death on the street in broad daylight for being “un-Islamic.’

Here in the United States the father of our Orlando killer has a history of support for the Taliban while living comfortably Port St. Lucie Florida. His years in our country taught him nothing but I’ve noticed he doesn’t plan to go back to Kabul. He simply inculcated his son with his “culture” and turned him into a killer.

Meanwhile no one really knows what the hell is going on in Turkey but the Turks blame an Islamic cleric living in Pennsylvania and want him extradited.  Maybe he’s CIA.  Who knows.

Meanwhile the French are supposed to be “tolerant” of these attacks on their fundamental values. After all, the argument goes, there are French forces attacking the Islamic State so now the war is being brought to their doorstep,

And where are the Arab armies?  Why are they not fighting on the front lines if ISIS doesn’t truly represent Islam?  One gets the feeling that the Arab states don’t want to be seen at war with their “brothers.”  Let the West do it.

Arab armies are not in the battle because ISIS IS Islam.

While I am a tolerant man my tolerance for live and let live stops with those who would kill me for writing this page.  I am beginning to understand why an ordinary French citizen would spit on the sidewalk when he sees a hijab.

I don’t like the feeling.  Maybe I’ll feel better next week.

About toritto

I was born during year four of the reign of Emperor Tiberius Claudius on the outskirts of the empire in Brooklyn. I married my high school sweetheart, the girl I took to the prom and we were together for forty years until her passing in 2004. We had four kids together and buried two together. I had a successful career in Corporate America (never got rich but made a living) and traveled the world. I am currently retired in the Tampa Bay metro area and live alone. One of my daughters is close by and one within a morning’s drive. They call their pops everyday. I try to write poetry (not very well), and about family. Occasionally I will try a historical piece relating to politics. :-)

You’re having a bad day, Frank. That’s understandable. But we cannot tar every Muslim living in the west with the same brush. If we did, we would be no better than ISIS, who are just as harsh on Muslims who don;t like the way they do things. It’s a sad world indeed, but we have to rise above those horrors, as hard as it is to do.
    Best wishes, Pete.

The world is a sick place at times. But it is also a place of great beauty. We need to work harder so everyone can see and share in its beauty.

If the situation isn’t remedied soon, ordinary people in France will start taking the law into their own hands. The French population has always been much more right wing than most people imagine. Clearly, they won’t accept being the passive victims of these madmen for ever.

Reblogged this on Truth Troubles: Why people hate the truths' of the real world and commented:
Islam is a Demonic disease that the ‘free world’ had better deport back to the sands of Saudi Arabia (Mecca) before there is no such thing as freedom anywhere.

  5. I remember my mother, a gentle woman who almost always had only kind things to say, tell me something that startled me. “I hate Catholics because of what they did to me.” She spent several pivotal childhood years In a Catholic Indian boarding school. She never shared specific details to explain the reasons for her strong enmity, but I’ve read enough history to know about the types of abuse and barbarism practiced in those institutions. I suspect she didn’t want to burden me with her anger and prejudice. Religion, or fanaticism, is only an excuse to deny one’s own responsibility and choice for expressing hatred and fear through violence. But of course, I know you already know this…

Carol – my mother too spent years in a catholic orphanage in New York. Her mother died and the state in its wisdom would not let an Italian immigrant raise five children without a woman in the house. They took my mother and her young sister away leaving the boys at home. After her years in the orphanage she never attended church again and insisted my brothers and I attend public schools. Regards from Florida.

There was no “Islamic Terrorism” until the Zionist regime (Israel) was created.
In fact, it is the zionists who invented modern terrorism.
Fact, check it out: Stern Gang, Irgun Gang, etc.

Yes well the Stern Gang was 75 years ago – before even my time. And I was also harshly critical of Israel’s last excursion into Gaza. And there were many other killers from Rwanda to Cambodia. But were haven’t seen such barbarities as perpetrated by ISIS since the middle ages. Even the Sunni Muslims flee them. Regards and come by again.
