Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus
The soldiers loved the little boy
son of famed Germanicus
Commander of the Roman legions
camped along the River Danube.
A little boy dressed in the part
of soldier in his father’s army
carrying his little sword
wearing little soldier’s boots.
He grew to strong and graceful manhood
beautiful of face and limb
as fits a child of noble birth
great grandson of Marc Antony.
And when his father passed away
stricken Rome would then bestow
all their love on little boots
son of famed Germanicus.
Divine Tiberias took his leave
and people yearned for hope and change
they celebrated youth and beauty
as little boots came to the throne.
All Rome in joyous adulation
hailed little boots as Emperor
Happy were the people now
with youth and beauty on the throne.
He never liked his nickname much
diminutive of “caliga”
Rome soon learned what it had wrought
the jackboots of Caligula.

Did you ever get a chance to watch the BBC adaptation of ‘I Claudius’, I wonder? John Hurt played Caligula, and I first heard ‘little boots’ in that series.

Worth your time, Frank.

They do indeed. I read the books after watching the series on TV, then bought it on VHS, long discarded. I will get the DVD one of these days.

Hi Aquleana! I too watched the Borgias! You do know that it was cancelled after three seasons. Very unfortunate because it was excellent. They will leave you hanging forcing you to go to your history books to find out what happened – unless of course you already know!
🙂

I didn´t know that… As a matter of fact, I am still on the 2nd season, and the third one still to come and available here on Netflix… But I had no clue it was cancelled… Such a pity… I´ll have to go to the books as you say then , as I don´t know the story… Thanks for letting me know. Sending best wishes. Aquileana 🐉☀️
