Bibi King.
That was the tabloid like headline on the front page of the New York Post this morning.
Bibi won.
He shamelessly played the “race” card in desperation. “The Arabs are voting in droves!”. Yup. Those citizens are voting.
The mask has finally dropped for all to see. Bibi is not the Prime Minister of all of Israel – he see himself has leader of the Jews.
In the final sop to his right wing he came out and stated twice – “there will be no Palestinian state so long as I am Prime Minister.”
Voters abandoned the smaller right wing parties in droves and gave Likud the victory.
So now what?
It will soon be 50 years that Israel has controlled the West Bank and millions of Palestinians. Now Bibi has basically told them (a) you will never be independent on my watch and (b) you will never be citizens of Israel.
The two state solution is officially dead although if you believed it was alive lately you were living on fantasy island. The sad part is that a clear majority of Israel’s Jewish citizens agree with him.
Israel has been accused of practicing apartheid. Many apologists for Bibi’s policies have called such criticism hyperbole. Yesterday Israel voted for it.
Israel has backed itself into a corner with it’s hard line positions.
The two state solution is America’s primary Middle East policy. Bibi now says it’s dead. Is there an alternative?
The United States is moving forward on negotiations with Iran. Suppose we reach a deal with Iran next week? What will a Bibi lead Israel do? He can expect little help from Obama whom he pissed off with his speech before Congress.
Settlements on Palestinian “territory”? The right expects them to go on in spite of severe criticism in the U.S. and Europe.
East Jerusalem as the capital of “Palestine”? Never.
So is there any pretense left?
Seems pretty clear that Israel wants it all.
A West Bank populated by Jews, without the Palestinians, incorporated into Israel. Call it Lebensraum.
And the Temple Mount.
And a piece of Syria would be nice too.
The Bible tells me so.
Maybe it’s time for the U.S. to abstain and let the U.N. Security Council vote on recognizing Palestine as a sovereign state.

With Likud and the GOP in charge of our nations, Israel and the USA are in for a very dark itme with little possibility of universal justice and prosperity for the most of us. Short of revolution, I see little to deliver us from Bibi and Boehner, but neither can I imagine just what kind of revolution I envision. Never in my 75 years have I had less hope or more cynicism. Thanks for your words; they echo my sentiments and despair.

Seems to me the only solution left once you abandon the 2 state solution is the 1 state solution. In that event, the Arab’s become the majority in Israel and vote to end the theocracy.

Hi Doc – Israel will never allow the millions of Palestinians to vote or grant them full citizenship, even if the West Bank is formally annexed forming one state. It will result in apartheid not an end to the theocracy. IMHO. Regards.

It is not just in Israel that Jews are standing against Bibi and Zionism. There are many Jews throughout the world who believe Israel should not even exist, according to their religious beliefs, and who also believe Zionism has nothing to do with Judaism.

Sojourner – Indeed there are many Jews, particularly in the U.S. who abhor Bibi’s policies and a small minority of ultra orthodox who believe that Israel should not exist until the coming of the Messiah. Unfortunately not enough of them live or vote in Israel. Regards.
