The Slippery Slope to Fascism

Well it is Wednesday and Dyed Blond Don hasn’t been indicted for paying off his prostitute / porn “star” yet.  We should have known that if Don said it was going to be so it was not going to happen.

He said Tuesday.  Didn’t happen. Hasn’t stopped him from passing the begging bowl, asking the rubes to send a portion of their social security checks to his campaign.

Meanwhile here in the Florida Reich, our fascist Governor continues his campaign against “wokeness,” gays, drag shows, trans people, black history, obscenity, woke books, choice, Attorneys General. education etc.

He tries so hard to put an attractive, young, married with children’s face on fascism.  You know.  A face we will all like and vote for in the upcoming Presidential primary against  Trump.

Oh yes.  He’s running.  That’s why all the noise.

Seems “Sanctimonious DeSantis” has only one problem.

His personality.  Reports from those who know him are not exactly vote getting.

“What a joyless character Ron DeSantis is, what a dour, sour, nasty, mean and, if you go back in history through every election, usually … the candidate you want to have a beer with versus the other one is the one who wins.  The one you want to have a cup of coffee, the one you want to invite to your living room — this is a very obnoxious, nasty, as you used the word, cruel man.”

“Policies aside, overall persona, to give an example of this guy as the entire country is worried this weekend about banks going under, his answer was, let me attack, let’s get the libs out there and say, the reason the bank got into trouble is they were paying too much attention to woke issues.”

“That’s insanity. You have average Americans worried about banks and getting their money, you’ll say, the reason this happened is because of wokeness? That doesn’t work. People have a B.S. detector, and I think … as this campaign starts to get heated up and as people see more and more of Ron DeSantis, they’ll see that cruel is a losing formula.”

Oh my.

. On a trip to Iowa last week, DeSantis was handed a snowflake picture and even posed for a cringey photo holding it. Little did he know there was a hidden message in the snowflake:

“My friend makes snowflakes to give to politicians who come to Iowa – there are special messages for odious Republicans- please look at the snowflake carefully,” wrote Twitter user MidlifeMisfit.

Around the edge of the snowflake, cut in paper and framed, was cut the word “fascist.”

Welcome to the primaries Guv.

DeSantis, according to a former classmate cited in the Financial Times, used to take dates for Thai food, but would pronounce it “thigh food” to see if his date would correct him.

If she did, the article claimed, he’d make an excuse and leave because “he didn’t want a girlfriend who corrected him.”   DeSantis was summed up as “a petty autocrat and a bully ― a man with no interest in hearing dissent, questions or indeed the correct pronunciation of Thai food.”

Just what we need in America.

We are IMHO rapidly sliding toward fascism in this country with millions preferring an authoritarian Duce to a diverse democratic republic.  These folks are all for elections so long as they win all the time.  Kind of like Vlad or Xi.  Just take a llook a half the House.

It will up to the young to maintain democracy in this nation.

How will they do that?  It is a difficult question.

Let’s put it this way. You are born in Germany to middle class parents in 1920. By the time you are in your teens Adolph Hitler is in power and the Weimar Republic has been swept away.  You know nothing of it except what you learn in school.

As a teen it all seems perfectly normal to you. You join the Hitler Youth and are eventually drafted into the army. You are a patriot. You grow up in the Reich.

How does one resist in the environment one has grown up in? Indeed, how does one even conceive of resistance? My grandson was born the night Trump was elected. That is the danger we face.

How to resist.

I’m still waiting for the DOJ or the Georgia state government to indict Trump on something more serious than paying off his whore under the table.

Don’t wait too long if you’re going to do it at all.

Millions of us, unable to find a way to effectively resist in the most powerful nation the world has ever known, will disengage.  We will find our happiness in spite of impending dictatorship as tens of millions of Italians and Germans had to do.  Maybe the young, realizing that there is nothing exceptional about this country will leave for Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Europe at the start of the next war and make their lives elsewhere.

We will follow our conscience and disengage from American fascism.  Without leadership it is all we can do.  No one remembers the names of the last leaders of Weimar and Italy before the coming of Hitler and Mussolini.

About toritto

I was born during year four of the reign of Emperor Tiberius Claudius on the outskirts of the empire in Brooklyn. I married my high school sweetheart, the girl I took to the prom and we were together for forty years until her passing in 2004. We had four kids together and buried two together. I had a successful career in Corporate America (never got rich but made a living) and traveled the world. I am currently retired in the Tampa Bay metro area and live alone. One of my daughters is close by and one within a morning’s drive. They call their pops everyday. I try to write poetry (not very well), and about family. Occasionally I will try a historical piece relating to politics. :-)

The interviews with the kids didn’t surprise me. I’m sure it would be much the same here if they were asked questions about British history, geography, and politics. If it’s not on Facebook and Instagram, they don’t have a clue.
    Best wishes, Pete.

My mother, Hilda van Stockum, wrote a book about a woman who grew up in Hitler Youth and went with her parents to the Nazi-Occupied Netherlands. Based on a true story, it shows how even with her Hitler Youth training she could see that Hitler was evil.
