On GOP Miscellaneous Doo-Dah

Well its another day here in America and another day of events that simply make you shake your head in wonder.  Some of our elected officials are either (a) bat-shit crazies or (b) will say ANYTHING to ensure that they are appealing to the lowest form of humanity in their “base” in order to get of keep their cushy government job.

Some people really have no shame; forget about honor. Let’s look at some of these folks this week.

Let’s start with Matt Gaetz, a Republican (of course) representing Florida’s 1st Congressional district in the House.

This week there was a convention of young neo-fascists here in Tampa.  Matt made a speech.

Have you watched these pro-abortion, pro-murder rallies?  These people are just disgusting,” and have no reason to support abortion rights.    Like, why is it that the women with the least likelihood of getting pregnant are the ones most worried about having abortions?” he said. “No one wants to impregnate you if you look like a thumb.”

He continued: “These people are odious on the inside and out. They’re like, 5’2”, 350 pounds, like, ‘Give me my abortions or I’ll get up and march and protest.’ And I’m thinking – march? You look like you got ankles weaker than the legal reasoning behind Roe v Wade. A few of them need to get up and march. They need to get up and march for like an hour a day. Swing those arms, get the blood pumping, maybe mix in a salad.”  When asked for comment following widespread criticism, a spokesperson for Mr. Gaetz’s congressional office told The Independent that his “speech speaks for itself”.

That this dick is an elected official makes me question the right to universal voting.  Some people are too f…king stupid to vote.

Meanwhile outside the neo-fascist “student” convention real neo-Nazis showed up, carrying swastikas and proclaiming their support for Ronnie DeSantis, the next Trump wannabee.  They took a nice walk on public property, exercising their right to free speech, distributing anti-Semitic leaflets, which also showed up in mailboxes in Lutz, Florida not far from me.

Neither DeSantis nor Trump, who also spoke to the young fascists has as yet condemned the appearance of swastikas in our streets.  F,,,cking little tweeps at the convention has made every American killed in WWII turnover over in his grave.

Let us move on from Nazis to Marjorie Taylor Green, Republican and Christian fascist from Georgia.

For years, the Georgia Republican has supported the most vile, right-wing viewpoints, often under the guise of extreme religiosity. For example, she’s referenced Christianity and claimed Christians have a godly duty to make a pilgrimage to visit Jan. 6 defendants (whom she’s described as “patriots”) in jail as they await trial.

She believes the United States is divinely favored by God and want the country’s laws to be based on Christianity. You know.  Like the Taliban does She’s spent the past few weeks trying to encourage other people to adopt the overtly anti-democratic moniker as well.

She too was at the young Fascists convention.

On multiple occasions at the right-wing Turning Point USA conference over the weekend, Greene called on conservatives to embrace Christian nationalism, which — to be clear — is the precise view that motivated murderous white supremacist groups like the Ku Klux Klan.

“We need to be the party of nationalism and I’m a Christian, and I say it proudly, we should be Christian nationalists,” Greene said during an interview at the conference Saturday.  “I have no problem saying I’m a Christian nationalist, and I think that’s an identity that we should embrace,” Greene said during a livestream last week, making the ludicrous argument that extremist pro-Christian policies benefit all Americans “regardless of how they vote.”

Right.

Trump, eager to latch on to any rube’s vote went on.  “We will not break, we will not yield, we will never give in, we will never give up, we will never, ever, ever back down. As long as we are confident and united, the tyrants we are fighting do not stand a chance,” Trump said. “Because we are Americans and Americans kneel to God, and God alone.”

That’s f…king hilarious coming from Trump.  Get your   “He’s the Chosen One” hat here!!

GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert recently said  “the church is supposed to direct the government.”  After we bring America back to God, Catholics and Protestants can start warring again.  Bring back the Inquisition.

Is this the 21st century or am I dreaming?

All well and good if you believe in fables.  Jesus has been dead for 2,000 years and ain’t coming back any more than Zeus or Juno.  There ain’t any distant shore any more than a Hades or River Styx.

You don’t have to believe what I believe.  Feel free to have “faith;” just don’t insist the nation be governed by your views.  America is not blessed because there is nobody up there in the sky doing the blessing.

Time we elected some atheists or appointed one to the Supremes.

Finally, we had another public meeting of the January 6 Committee last week.  Liz Cheney, staunch Republican, led much of the meeting as a parade of Republicans who were up  Trump’s ass for four years gave testimony.  They were “cooperating.”  No. They weren’t.  They were subpoenaed.

I’m glad they finally saw the light whether because the bulb finally lite up or they decided to save their own asses when witnessing a crime being committed.

Mathew Pottinger resigned on January 7 from his position as Trump’s Deputy National Security Advisor.  He was so proud to serve and loves America.  Let’s not forget he served for 14 days short of 4 years.  He was there when Trump humiliated himself in front of Putin in Helsinki and when he threatened to hold up arms shipments to Ukraine unless he got an investigation of the Bidens.

Pottinger sat there on his hands when Trump fired Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch on utterly spurious grounds, knowing that she had done nothing to deserve it and that Trump was just positioning himself to exploit Ukraine in his effort to get reelected.

“Pottinger knows full well that it was Trump’s lap-dog nuzzling of Putin and his constant attacks on NATO and his weakening of U.S. support for Ukraine that gave Putin the idea he could attack Ukraine and get away with it in the first place. Where was our hero Pottinger when Trump virtually disassembled the entire foreign service profession at the State Department by cutting its budget by more than 30 percent? We’re supposed to thank him for his heroic decision to resign 14 days before Trump left office after helping to facilitate every stupid-ass foreign affairs move Trump made for four long years?”

And how about “rule of law” hero Pat Cipollone? He sat there in his White House counsel’s office for more than two years while Trump told lie after lie after lie and eviscerated every single tradition and norm that has helped keep our nation running for 240 years. He supported Trump’s disastrous policies at the border, including taking children from migrant parents and then losing them. He defended Trump at his first impeachment trial for soliciting foreign interference in the 2020 election.  Cipollone authored an eight-page letter to Democratic leaders refusing to cooperate in any way with the impeachment inquiry and accused Democrats of “violating the Constitution, the rule of law and every past precedent” in their investigation of Trump. He represented Trump at his second impeachment trial for inciting the riot on Jan. 6. He provided legal cover for everything Trump did to attempt to “deconstruct the administrative state,” in the immortal words of Steve Bannon.

In short, Cipollone enabled Donald Trump right up to his attempt to overturn the election of 2020, and then he refused to cooperate with the Jan. 6 committee until testimony by witnesses like Cassidy Hutchinson forced him to meet with the committee.

We’re supposed to be impressed that they “stood up for the rule of law” after participating in an administration whose hallmark was breaking laws and norms for four long years?

As for Liz Cheney, well she’s a Cheney.  And she supported Trump for 4 years until his usefulness ended.

“Liz Cheney learned at her father’s knee how the Republican Party works. It’s who they are and who they have always been. As Gore Vidal used to call them, they are the “Owners.” All the rest of this stuff, like screaming about transgender bathrooms and vaccine mandates and school choice and even their anti-abortion hallelujah chorus with fundamentalist Christians is crap. It’s red meat for the rubes.

Do you really think they care if their wife’s or mistress’ hairdresser marries his longtime partner? Do you think if a Cheney granddaughter got raped at college and got pregnant that she wouldn’t be able to get an abortion? Do you think if a Cheney granddaughter just wanted an abortion because she broke up with the boyfriend who got her pregnant that she wouldn’t be put aboard a biz-jet and flown across state borders to the best abortion doctor in the country?

Of course not. They’ll always protect the Owners and their mansions and their yachts and their Gulfstreams and their ability to avail themselves of abortion services or even contraception if it comes to that. They’ll always cut taxes for each other even if it means that poor people get poorer and that children don’t get fed at lunchtime in public schools and migrants continue to die in tractor-trailers in Texas.

They don’t give a shit about the poor or Trump either so long as they’ve got their tax cuts and their millions and billions and they can keep the minimum wage at $7.25 an hour and maintain their control over red-state governments.”

Suddenly these “honorable” Republicans have discovered Trump is a dangerous scumbag.

It’s a con job.

They’re Republicans. It’s what they do.

About toritto

I was born during year four of the reign of Emperor Tiberius Claudius on the outskirts of the empire in Brooklyn. I married my high school sweetheart, the girl I took to the prom and we were together for forty years until her passing in 2004. We had four kids together and buried two together. I had a successful career in Corporate America (never got rich but made a living) and traveled the world. I am currently retired in the Tampa Bay metro area and live alone. One of my daughters is close by and one within a morning’s drive. They call their pops everyday. I try to write poetry (not very well), and about family. Occasionally I will try a historical piece relating to politics. :-)

In any normal country, MTG would be banging her head against a wall in a mental hospital, with the key thrown away forever.
That anyone actually voted for Gaetz is even more worrying than his mad jabberings.
As for the rest, you are in big trouble, my friend. I would be getting my grandson away now, before the advent of Gilead. Maybe Canada, but even Britain is a better option, and that’s saying something!
    Best wishes, Pete.
