On the Coming Conflict

Its been almost a year since the last Presidential election and  Donald Trump is still spreading the big lie in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.  Not withstanding that he lost the popular vote by more than seven million votes he and his minions still insist the election was “stolen.”

Trump got the biggest trouncing since Jimmie Carter.  No matter.  The big lie has been amplified by right wing media and now inhabits a safe space.  Virtually the entire Republican  party either repeats the lie or will not denounce it.

We should not be surprised.  Trump told us in advance what he was going do.  If he didn’t win it will be because the election was stolen; a doubling down on the big lie.  Not one shred of evidence has been uncovered to support the claim of massive election fraud.

No matter.  This claim is critical to support the big lie and it too is now in a safe space.  Here too, virtually the entire Republican party either supports it or remains silent and complicit.

Trump, by denouncing the election itself in advance revealed to us his determination to remain in power.  He was planning a coup.  Like everything else in his administration however, the players were incompetent.     History tells us that a failed coup attempt usually precedes a successful one.  See the Munich putsch.

January 6 is also moving to a safe space.  It was a “peaceful demonstration” by loyal supporters because the election was stolen.  There is a move to deify the woman killed by police as she broke into the temple of democracy.   Republicans reused to participate in an investigation of the insurrection instigated by the President because they too have become authoritarians.  Too many including my congressman voted to overturn the election results.   When questioned about the insurrection Trump supporters begin attacking Black Lives Matter.  The insurrectionists were “tourists”

We are now in a position where one party has abandoned democracy.  Republicans will accept election results it the count goes their way.  If not, the results will be contested – if necessary in the streets.  When Trump speaks  of “staying strong” and “standing ready” he is preparing his followers for a time when he will call them to violence.

There you go again Toritto.  Going off the deep end.  That can’t happen  here.  This is America!  We are exceptional and were founded on ideals.

We will have elections next year and in 2024.  Tell me with a straight face that Republicans won’t contest the election if theydon’t win back the House?  If you believe that you really need to get out more and I have some land in Florida I would like to  sell you.

Assuming Trump runs again in 2024 (he will unless of course he is dead) he will continue the lie and if he loses he will call his followers into the streets.  By refusing to accept election results his followers will have openly rejected democracy and set the stage for conflict.  Republicans are doing everything they can right now to suppress the vote.

If Trump wins it will 4 years of revenge and insuring that the authoritarians remain in power after he is gone.  There will be a House and Senate but democracy will be dead.  See Augustus, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin.

Underneath the Trump big lie (Goebbels loved a big lie repeated often enough) is the white supremacy of the Republican party.

When Trump says he won the election he really is signaling is that he won among white voters.  Thus the attacks and charges of voter fraud in the cities.  There was only fraud in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Phoenix etc.  Never in Kansas, Alabama or Mississippi. Change the rules to make it more difficult for black and brown people to vote.

It is the dog whistle of white supremacy.

We are facing the most dangerous decade since pre-Civil War days.  If Trump or his followers win we will see the silencing of critics and intellectuals.

They mean it when they chant “Lock her up.”  That may also include you.

About toritto

I was born during year four of the reign of Emperor Tiberius Claudius on the outskirts of the empire in Brooklyn. I married my high school sweetheart, the girl I took to the prom and we were together for forty years until her passing in 2004. We had four kids together and buried two together. I had a successful career in Corporate America (never got rich but made a living) and traveled the world. I am currently retired in the Tampa Bay metro area and live alone. One of my daughters is close by and one within a morning’s drive. They call their pops everyday. I try to write poetry (not very well), and about family. Occasionally I will try a historical piece relating to politics. :-)

  2. History repeating itself, Trump is surely the embodiment of Mussolini and Hitler. A white supremest who is capable of the unspeakable , who could have imagined so many evil cultists living among us.

I really fear he is setting the stage for his reelection in 2024 so that he would be the next president regardless of whether he actually wins or loses. If his followers end up storming the Capitol they are more likely to bring guns next time. Bill Maher has made this chilling prediction: https://www.real-time-with-bill-maher-blog.com/index/category/NEW+RULES

i take it the only reason Trump won in 2016 is because he was a Russian agent and the dossier was proof. https://americafirst.blog/2021/10/16/the-democrats-had-2-plots-going-in-2020/
