Turning Florida Purple

Well the pandemic continues to rage on here in Florida as our freedom loving governor continues to oppose mask wearing mandates in schools (thousands of kids are already in quarantine),  vaccine mandates and proof of vaccination.

Nonetheless, half of Florida’s school  districts have ignored him and won a Court victory against his ordinances last week.  Of course he is appealing.

Meanwhile my local hospital has put up a tent outside as the freedom loving unvaccinated role in and die in staggering numbers. Some  43,979 people have died from the virus in the state since the beginning of the pandemic.  Hospitals are packed with the unvaccinated and folks suffering hearth attacks or trauma in auto accidents are waiting in hall ways as the freedom lovers occupy the beds on ventilators.

Fourteen portable morgues are being sent to central Florida hospitals amid what one official called “unprecedented deaths” during the state’s record COVID-19 crisis.

Each refrigerated morgue holds 12 bodies, Lynne Drawdy, executive director of the Central Florida Disaster Medical Coalition, who ordered the units, told the Orlando Sentinel.

“The number of deaths right now is unprecedented,” Drawdy told the newspaper. “What we’re hearing from the hospitals is that the death count right now is higher than it has ever been.”

AdventHealth, which is getting three of the portable morgues, said in a statement to WESH Channel 2 that the system is also renting refrigerated units at 10 sites in Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole and Volusia counties, noting that they are also being filled.

The AdventHealth statement said bodies are backing up because funeral homes and crematoriums are also overwhelmed.  “The hospitals are starting to run out of room [with] refrigeration for people who have passed.”

Florida currently has more daily COVID-19 cases and weekly COVID-19 deaths than ever before in the pandemic.

Politico recently reported that polls reveal Floridians are beginning to “turn on” the governor.

I would think they would. This guy is putting their children’s lives at risk,.

DeSantis has raised the potential of seeing dead kids all over Florida in these districts that are following his directives.  In my 79 years  I have never seen any governor of either party ever behave like this. It’s almost as if he’s crazier than Trump and  doesn’t give a damn who has to die as long as he gets reelected.

So sad.

On the other hand most of those dying are his own supporters.

About toritto

I was born during year four of the reign of Emperor Tiberius Claudius on the outskirts of the empire in Brooklyn. I married my high school sweetheart, the girl I took to the prom and we were together for forty years until her passing in 2004. We had four kids together and buried two together. I had a successful career in Corporate America (never got rich but made a living) and traveled the world. I am currently retired in the Tampa Bay metro area and live alone. One of my daughters is close by and one within a morning’s drive. They call their pops everyday. I try to write poetry (not very well), and about family. Occasionally I will try a historical piece relating to politics. :-)

Did he have a big majority when he was elected, Frank? Despite alienating so many Floridians, it is not inconceivable that this irresponsible dolt could get in again.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. At the same time, it’s also the same Florida who hasn’t elected a Democrat since before I was born. Though at the rate your governor is going, he may change that next year.
