A Re-Post from December, 2014 – Lest We Forget
From the Huffington Post and the Senate Intelligence Committee Report:
“On Tuesday, the Senate Intelligence Committee released the long-awaited summary of its torture report, revealing horrific details about the CIA’s post-9/11 detention and interrogation program.
Detainees were subjected to “rectal feeding,” a process by which food is pumped into the anus…
even when there was no demonstrated medical need for it
Detainees were waterboarded until they turned blue…… and were on the verge of drowning.
Forced nudity was regularly used as an interrogation technique.
At one black site, groups of detainees were regularly stripped, beaten, hooded and bound with tape.
Detainees were subjected to seemingly unimaginable periods of sleep deprivation, in conjunction with other forms of torture.
Detainees were also refused access to toilets, put in diapers and left hanging by their wrists in cells for extended periods of time.
Others were forced to maintain “stress positions” even on broken limbs and though medical personnel had advised against it.
The CIA detained individuals who did not meet its outlined detention standard, and they were used to extract information from family members. This included at least one “intellectually challenged” individual.
Meanwhile, it was generally reported this week that a majority of Americans believe that the harsh interrogation techniques used on terrorism suspects after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks were justified, even as about half the public says the treatment amounted to torture, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
I’ll bet most of these folks go to church on Sunday.
“By an almost 2-1 margin, or 59-to-31 percent, those interviewed support the CIA’s brutal methods, with the vast majority of supporters saying they produced valuable intelligence – a direct contradiction of the 6,000 page report.
In general, 58 percent say the torture of suspected terrorists can be justified “often” or “sometimes.”
When did this nation descend into barbarism?
And it’s not torture; it’s “enhanced interrogation” when they lock you in a box, hang you by your wrists when you have broken bones, strip you, hood you, tape you up and drag you naked up and down a long corridor while slapping the shit out of you and then making you a fine steak dinner complete with gravy and mash potatoes, pureeing it in a blender along with two bottles of Ensure and pumping it up your ass while putting you in a diaper – it’s not torture. Don’t use that word.
Oh and when the CIA is holding your mentally challenged innocent brother and telling you they will torture him – that’s ok.
Oh and we’ll drown you twice a day until you turn blue and a medic has to remove the wet rag from your face.
Makes you want to break out in song: “And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free!”
The CIA did not just torture it’s captives; it experimented on them.
Reinhard Heydrich and Klaus Barbie are laughing their asses off. Then of course the CIA did help Barbie escape to South America. They liked him; he actually did the torture himself. If you don’t believe me or think it “fake news,” look it up.
The CIA lied to Congress. Individuals broke domestic and international law. The U.N. has called for prosecutions.
Next time somebody commits a barbarity against us, we better not look for sympathy. A good chunk of the civilized world rightly views our leadership as war criminals.
Best wishes for 2020.
P.S. – No one was prosecuted.
