Dolls – #1

Lots of folks are collectors of dolls.  My wife JoAnn was one of them.  She was quite particular in her choice of a doll – she had to love it and it had to be in our price range.  Dolls can be extraordinarily expensive when rare and created by a particular manufacturer.

I have found that most adults either love dolls or hate them.  Many think they are “creepy” – a feeling undoubtedly arising from creepy doll movies.

Today Joann’s dolls sit in their original boxes in a cabinet in my garage, untouched for the last 15 years.  For those of you who love them I will bring them out of darkness and photograph each.  Some of them she bought herself and some I gave her as gifts.

Those of you who get the “willies” are free to comment.

About toritto

I was born during year four of the reign of Emperor Tiberius Claudius on the outskirts of the empire in Brooklyn. I married my high school sweetheart, the girl I took to the prom and we were together for forty years until her passing in 2004. We had four kids together and buried two together. I had a successful career in Corporate America (never got rich but made a living) and traveled the world. I am currently retired in the Tampa Bay metro area and live alone. One of my daughters is close by and one within a morning’s drive. They call their pops everyday. I try to write poetry (not very well), and about family. Occasionally I will try a historical piece relating to politics. :-)

I found them rather spooky long before I ever saw a creepy doll film. This one looks too old to be a doll, at least to me. (Early 40s, I’m guessing)
But I am looking forward to the series, and I think it’s a great tribute to JoAnn.
    Best wishes, Pete.

I look forward to seeing your wife’s collection. I have one doll my daughters bought me for a birthday. It hold a lot of memories for me.

  3. My sister is/was also a doll collector. Like your wife, her collection has been in storage for several years now. The featured doll is creepy to me because, as Pete observes, it looks too old to be a doll.

I look forward to seeing each one. I do not find them creepy, but appreciate the art that goes into making the special ones. I am with your late wife on that one.

Dolls aren’t my thing either way, and all that matters is that your wife loved them and you showed your love by gifting them to her.
