Halloweens Past

Well Halloween is coming soon, marking the beginning of the holiday season with the commencement of Christmas advertising.  In my youth the Christmas season started officially after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.  The store would close the night before and when it reopened the day after it was completely decorated for the season.

Halloween used to mean daddy and his girls dressing up to go trick or treating.  Daddy went along each year knocking on doors in the neighborhood collecting candy along with other moms, dads and teens who always appeared a bit too old for such activities.

Above is my eldest in her first witches costume – probably 1980.

Toritto in his raincoat with a pair of shorts underneath so that my legs were bare and making sure I hid the shirt collar when we went out; figured I would go as an exhibitionist that year!   The adults got the joke.      🙂

Toritto’s pirate year!  The jacket is an official America’s Cup hoodie for the 12 meter yacht Clipper, which raced in 1980 off Newport, Rhode Island.

Toritto in his Summer of Love!  Nice shirt!

Happy Halloween!

About toritto

I was born during year four of the reign of Emperor Tiberius Claudius on the outskirts of the empire in Brooklyn. I married my high school sweetheart, the girl I took to the prom and we were together for forty years until her passing in 2004. We had four kids together and buried two together. I had a successful career in Corporate America (never got rich but made a living) and traveled the world. I am currently retired in the Tampa Bay metro area and live alone. One of my daughters is close by and one within a morning’s drive. They call their pops everyday. I try to write poetry (not very well), and about family. Occasionally I will try a historical piece relating to politics. :-)

I’m sure I have seen these before, but I still had a chuckle at your outfits, Frank. 🙂

Wonderful photos and memories, Frank. I tell stories at school, and one is about trick-or-treating. Back then, parents never went with their kids. Oooo!
