We’ve been having fun here in Florida!!
You all know about our Governor, Rick Scott who, in my opinion, should be in Federal prison for Medicare fraud. But hey, what do I know?
Before he was our Governor, Scottie was Chairman of Columbia/HCA, the largest for profit healthcare company in America. He resigned as chief executive of Columbia/HCA in 1997, amid a controversy over the company’s business and Medicare billing practices; the company ultimately admitted to fourteen felonies and agreed to pay the federal government a reported $2 billion, which was the largest fraud settlement in US history.
“On March 19, 1997, investigators from the FBI, the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Health and Human Services served search warrants at Columbia/HCA facilities in El Paso and on dozens of doctors with suspected ties to the company.
Following the raids, the Columbia/HCA board of directors forced Rick Scott to resign as chairman and CEO. He was paid a settlement of $9.88 million and left with 10 million shares of stock worth over $350 million, mostly from his initial investment. In 1999, Columbia/HCA changed its name back to HCA, Inc.
HCA also admitted fraudulently billing Medicare and other health programs by inflating the seriousness of diagnoses and to giving doctors partnerships in company hospitals as a kickback for the doctors referring patients to HCA. They filed false cost reports, fraudulently billing Medicare for home health care workers, and paid kickbacks in the sale of home health agencies and to doctors to refer patients. In addition, they gave doctors “loans” never intended to be repaid, free rent, free office furniture, and free drugs from hospital pharmacies.”
Of course Rickie knew nothing. He was only Chairman.
Subsequently, in 2010 the good people of the State of Florida narrowly elected him Governor and re-elected him in 2014. He spent over $75 million of his own money during his first campaign.
He is your typical right wing Republican; in fact he recently endorsed Donald Trump. Maybe he wants to he on the ticket.
Well this week he walked into Starbucks for a coffee – and he got an ear full.
The video went viral and was all over the local news here in the Sunshine State.
Scottie’s handlers immediately came out with a tv ad attacking the young woman as an “anarchist” and a “latte liberal.” It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a political ad attacking a single heckler.
Such thin skin Scottie!!
