San Bernadino

It’s getting so routine

the murder of innocents

quickly forgotten in mere hours

crying teens and mounds of flowers.

Yet fear not ye plebes

for mighty Caesar and the Senate

have offered lamentations to the Gods

tweeting thoughts and prayers

as once we little boys prayed to the Virgin

for conversion of the commie godless;

entreaties rising to Heaven

like little red balloons.

About toritto

I was born during year four of the reign of Emperor Tiberius Claudius on the outskirts of the empire in Brooklyn. I married my high school sweetheart, the girl I took to the prom and we were together for forty years until her passing in 2004. We had four kids together and buried two together. I had a successful career in Corporate America (never got rich but made a living) and traveled the world. I am currently retired in the Tampa Bay metro area and live alone. One of my daughters is close by and one within a morning’s drive. They call their pops everyday. I try to write poetry (not very well), and about family. Occasionally I will try a historical piece relating to politics. :-)

They are saying here that it is an IS sympathy attack. It may well be the first of many to hit the USA, Frank. Or it might be a combination of problems with being fired from a job, and easy and legal access to unlimited amounts of firearms, even if you are a radical Muslim.
It’s the American Way. God bless it. (But which God?)
    Best wishes, Pete.

hi Pete – there has been a lot of criticism here today about our do nothing government, especially when it comes to gun control. All they do is wring their hands and tweet “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families”, which in view of the lack of action by those responsible for solving our problems, ain’t worth shit.

Prayer and platitudes ain’t gonna solve this issue. These two had over 6,000 rounds, automatic weapons, pistols, body armor and 12 bombs. Sheer lunacy. And all we get is tweets about prayers. Besides, atheist, humanist pinko that I am, I don’t think anyone is listening -ours or theirs. “We will pray for you” is doing nothing as far as I am concerned. Regards.

You are absolutely right Frank. I think that this will just go on for ever. Whereas most shootings used to be in one particular social group, they seem now to be spreading to every category of person. Perhaps ,democracy is just too easy to defeat, with its bribes, its backhanders and its various groups of people, all trying to influence the government and prevent them from carrying out the mandate given to them by the voters.

  4. The availability and ability to purchase legally (and many maintain their God given right) assault weapons and the ammunition for them to a civilian population, enabling an individual to murder many innocents in just a few minutes does not bode well for the safety of anyone.

Thank you for having the courage to speak on this issue.
